Make Sure You Stay On Course

On its own by kalevkevad on flickrAs you begin (and continue) your road to success you will make many discoveries along the way. One thing you will certainly find is that there will always be some attractive new thing crossing your path to catch your eye and try to distract you. You may be tempted you to go running after it.

However if you chase every new offer that comes your way, you will soon lose sight of your own goals and may well end up not achieving anything.

A well trained hound will stay focused
There is a well know sport in England know as the fox hunt. Hound dogs are trained to pursue a fox while a team of riders chase behind them. All are in hot pursuit of one poor little fox. These hounds are well trained to focus on their target which is of course the fox.

Many a juicy rabbit crosses the hound dogs’ path while they are pursing that fox, but the hound that is worth anything will not be distracted by any diversion. His focus is on his main goal, which is to catch that fox.

  • How many juicy rabbits cross your path as you pursue your goals?
  • Is your focus fully set on your goals or are you busy chasing some of those juicy rabbits?
  • Are you on course or have you wandered off of your path?

A well disciplined mind will stay focused.
One of the keys to a successful mindset is discipline. It takes discipline to stay on course without allowing yourself to be distracted until you reach your goals and have fulfilled your plans.

How can you make sure you stay on track and reach the success you are aiming at?

  1. Write out a clear plan which will start with writing out your goals.

  2. Determine that you will not change your course until you have reached your goals.

  3. Create a good filing system where you can keep anything that you think may flow with your life goals, or may be of interest to you later on.

  4. If anything crosses your path that you may be interested in but that will distract your immediate focus, file it for later. This will take discipline as the temptation may be to take time out to look at this new offer, or information that has just come your way.

  5. Design a reward system for yourself, so that you will stay encouraged along the way.Your brain is created to respond to a reward system.

  • Make your plan. Write out your goals and your plan to reach them.
  • Work your plan. This is where the actions starts.
  • Take intervals to relax. Make sure your plan of action includes intervals of time to relax.
  • Stay focused. Make sure you stay focused on your plan and your goals.
