Overcoming Obstacles Is Easier With a Well Trained Mind

Any sports man or woman will agree that it takes a well trained body AND a well trained mind to become a champion in their chosen sport.
It also takes a well trained body and a well trained mind to win at the game of life.
The mindset of a champion is not something you inherit. It is something you cultivate. It takes work, effort and yes it takes discipline.
(Remember the dictionary tells us that the word discipline is defined as training to improve strength or self-control).
3 things you can do that will help you achieve the mindset of a champion.
1. Mediatate every day on something inspirational and motivational.
This will train your mind to focus on positive things. Yes it will take some discipline to do this EVERY day, but the rewards will be well worth it.
I highly recommend the Psalms of the Bible, the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) in the New Testament, as well as the writings of Paul (the book of Ephesians and Colossians for example).
There are so many great books available that will challenge you, motivate you and inspire you.
Here are some more books I recommend:
I know that you have some suggestions too from your library. Please share them with us in the comments below.
2. Be alert to your own thoughts.
Have you ever “found yourself” doing or saying something that seemed rather odd? Later you looked back at the event and said: “Now why on earth did I do that”?
Why? You had already planned to do or say it. What? Yes, everything we do or say we first plan in our minds. Sometimes that “plan” is formed over a period of time.
It is a good idea to train yourself to be alert to what you are thinking. Ask yourself some questions from time.
Some questions you could ask yourself could be: “Now where is this train of thought taking me”? “Do I really want to go there”?
3. Forgive.
This is a big one! A mind that is filled with bitterness, anger, resentment and all of the attitudes that come as a result of not forgiving cannot be free to soar to the heights of a champion.
Can you imagine a show horse being able to easily jump over a hurdle if it was carrying excess weight? How can your mind lead you to jump over any obstacles if it is weighed down by the emotions that are a result of not being able to forgive someone?
Forgiveness is a decision. It is not an emotion. You may not feel like forgiving this person. But you CAN decide to forgive them, for YOUR sake.
To maintain a champion mindset you need to learn to forgive and let go of the past difficulties. This will help you to be ready for future victories. You can find more about forgiveness over here.
