Your mindset has a lot to do with what you focus on. If you have a fixed goal that you are really determined to achieve, then no matter what happens when an obstacle tries to hinder your progress, you will not be stopped. You will become unstoppable!

How can you be so certain you will not let obstacles stop you from reaching your goal? The answer is simple. If your focus is fixed on your goal you WILL find a way to achieve it.

Your mindset will follow your focus. When you focus on winning, your mind will receive the message: “Winning is my only option”. Once this message really penetrates your mind and brain there will be no stopping you.

Of course, if your mind is allowing room for possible failure then some things may well trip you up. A mindset that allows room for failure is a double mind. The book of James in the Bible, tells us that a double minded man is unstable in all of his ways. (James 1:5-8)

If you allow thoughts of possible failure, then obstacles may well discourage you or even stop you from achieving your goals.

Make sure your mind is focused on succeeding!

When your mindset is set on success all of your goal setting, strategy planning and action will be directed towards achieving your passion in life.

There will be no thought of failing.

You will stay confident that you can and will win.

If an obstacle does try to block but your mindset is set on success:

Your creativity will blossom as you seek for solutions and you will either:

His father, Yuki, had been with the challenging role of being a solo parent when his son was just 1 year old. Yuki noticed his little son’s fascination for speed when he was just 3 years old and so bought Apolo a pair of roller blades. That was the beginning of this Olympian’s destiny.

From a very young age young Ohno was winning competitions on the ice rink.

Then the 1998 Olympics proved to bring a very strong challenge to both father and son. Apolo had lost his game and went home discouraged and defeated.

1. Decision.
Yuki was not happy with his son’s lack of focus. He sent him off to a remote cabin by the sea to stay there alone until he could come to a real decision as to what he REALLY wanted in life.

After several days of walking along the beach lost in his thoughts this young man came to a firm decision. He wanted to skate.

He called his father with the news. Yuki of course was happy, and their relationship was restored.

This was the beginning of a new chapter in Apolo’s life. Now he KNEW what he REALLY wanted. This is what it takes to be able to submit to the discipline required to train as a champion.

2. Training.
Now the training really began. The old associations which were leading him astray were left behind and he submitted himself to an intense daily training program.

Here is a summary of the daily workout that this young champion subjects himself to: Eight sets of two repetitions at 1,000 pounds on the leg press, one leg at a time, holding the weight between each set. Then bench hops. Then one-legged hops. Then, in the afternoon, treadmill training, alternating each minute between 12 and 15 miles an hour for 20 rotations.

3. Focus
Because Apolo knows what he REALLY wants he is prepared to pay the price for it. He is laser focused and relentless. Consequently he is unstoppable.

Yuki says concerning his son:
His view is clear and focused. It is so loud, I’m afraid. It is like having a dominant focused lion sitting next to me.

Now that is focus!

And guess what? His focus not only kept him in the race when he fell, but it kept him inside of the winner’s circle as he came in third to win the Bronze.

So what can you and I learn from this young Olympian’s example?

Decision – have you made a firm decision as to what you REALLY want in life (at least during the next 2-5 years).

Training – is your chosen passion strong enough for you to submit yourself to a rigid training program?

Focus - decision and training both lead to focus.

2010 is the beginning of a new decade which holds many great and exciting things for those who are actively creating their future.

Yes, this New Year can hold great things for you. In fact each new year, (new month or new day) can hold great things for you. The decision is really yours!

No matter what obstacles or trials you may face on the way to achieving your dreams, there are many things that you CAN control.

You can choose to let a situation control you, or you can decide to conquer the situation. You choose how to react to the situation.
.

You can control the decisions you make as a result of situations that you face in life.
.

Everything you face has the potential to make you bitter or better. You decide.
.

You can control whether to continue training and preparing yourself each and every day to reach your highest potential, or you can give in and quit because the discipline and sacrifice gets too hard.
.

You can control whether to continue actively fighting for your dreams and living for your why, or you can simply give up when things get tough.

I have often heard it said: “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. This may be true, but it is also potentially a very PASSIVE declaration.

How about:
“I am making today the first day of the BEST part of my life”. This is an ACTIVE declaration.

Why?

Because it means that TODAY you are actively doing something that will ensure that your life IS moving towards a new and higher level.

This means:

You will be doing things that are motivated by your why (your main purpose in life).

You will have a plan, and you will be working your plan.

You ARE moving towards fulfilling your dreams.

What action can you do right now that will ensure that today IS the first day of the BEST part of your life?

One major life changing action you CAN do EVERY day and that is to spend time in self development.

Take time to listen to a motivational tape or video EVERY day.

Here’s a great way to increase the size of your motivational library (and it’s free). Download these mp3s (audio) and mp4s (video) right now. Listen to at least one today (they will play on any media player, or of course on your computer).

Do it now, and make sure that today really IS the first day of the BEST part of your life. Here’s that link again: FREE motivational mp3s and mp4s.

Happy New Year – Happy New Day!

Make it so!

Some words are so powerful that if we REALLY listen to them and act on them they have the potential to completely turn our lives around.

A couple of days ago I was listening to a motivational video and I heard a challenging question that made me REALLY think.

Wow - how would you answer that?

Words are very powerful. They can influence our thoughts, our decisions, our emotions and our life.

Some words are so powerful that if we REALLY listen to them and act on them they have the potential to completely turn our lives around.

A couple of days ago I was listening to a motivational video and Jim Cathcart asked a challenging question that made me REALLY think.

Jim Cathcart asked this question:

How would the person I would like to be, do the things I am about to do?

Wow – how would you answer that? This really is a thought provoker. If you take some time to think it through, answer it and ACT on your answer, your life could change drastically starting NOW.

Why? Because if you start acting NOW like that successful person you would like to be, then your success starts TODAY. No waiting for tomorrow.

Of course every day you will continue to grow and develop as you learn and train to achieve your life goals. While you and I are on this earth, we should always be learning and training.

First you need to have a clear vision of the person you want to be. Right?

Do you have that vision?

Do you know what you really want in life?

If not, why not take some time right now and start to really think about this.

What does the person you want to be look like?

What attitudes would they have?

How would they act?

So then:
How would this person you would like to be, handle the tasks, challenges or triumphs you are facing today?

Answering this question and acting accordingly cannot help but transform your mindset starting from today.

Are you REALLY training for success today? This is one question I asked myself when I first heard this challenge from Jim Cathcart.

What do you think?

We have just celebrated the day of Thanksgiving in the United States, when most all American families gathered together to eat turkey with all the trimmings.

But the celebration of Thanksgiving is a whole lot more than eating turkey. It is a season when you most likely took time to stop and reflect on all of the things you are grateful for. It is always good to respond to that sense of gratitude and express it with thanksgiving.

Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. Henry Van Dyke

However, real thanksgiving is not just a season, but rather an expression of gratitude that should always be a part of our lives.

Gratitude and thanksgiving is an essential part of the life style of every successful person.

Gratitude and being thankful will help you focus on the positive.
Gratitude is very powerful because it is a very positive emotion. It is impossible to be depressed or negative when you are feeling gratitude.

Hence this is one sure way to step away from depression, fear and other negative emotions.

Any time you catch yourself feeling a little low, speaking anything negative or if you have faced a difficult situation, STOP. Yes take a few moments out to start thinking of all of the things you are grateful for.

I guarantee you that once you start with one or two things, more will come to mind and you will start to feel better.

Gratitude and giving thanks can help you see beyond any obstacles in your path.
Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation. Brian Tracy

Obstacles, unexpected situations and crisis are all a part of life. Everyone faces these situations at one time or another. The key is not what happens to you, but you DO with what happens to you.

Every situation you face can make you bitter or better. There is only one different letter between these two words, but their meanings are as different as night and day.

Do you allow things to make you bitter, or do you take them as a challenge to become a better person?

Gratitude can keep you humble as you climb the ladder of success.
Never forget where you came from as you run towards following your dream. You cannot do it alone. Many people along the way contributed to your success by something they said, wrote or did. Their words, writings or actions challenged you, inspired you or opened a door for you.

Consider this:
No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude. Alfred North Whitehead

Have you counted your blessings today? I am sure you have a multitude of things you are thankful for.

Here’s a suggestion:

Take a few moments out of your busy day.

Find a clean sheet of paper and a pen.

Write down at least five things you are grateful for.

Now express your gratitude:

Give thanks for these things.

Tell someone you appreciate them

Write to someone expressing your appreciation, or send them a card (on me).
